1 week on.
Week 1 officially ended. Theres two new students in the studio, both coming from polytechnics. Week 1 seems pretty relaxed. Tutor sounds interesting, but i think i need time to adjust to the new tutor. 1 semester with Lilian makes me feel like doing something with design all the time. The new tutor is very exciting, and brings a new look to things. I think i should be able to pick on from where i left off last semester. Attended my film art module lect. Mondays from now on will be stressful. Back to back lectures from 9 to 6 is no joke. However, i enjoyed the lecture despite the lecturer being VERY long winded, and a little monotone. I realized that there is a similarity between film and design. Framing, articulation and mise-en-scene are all part of architectural design as well. Given the chance I might incorporate the aspect of film into my projects. Intro to computing was not what i expected it to be. The lecturer had a slang, and for a moment I mistook “mainframe” for “manframe”. History of SEA architecture is interesting in its own sense. Perhaps because it is related to things closer to home. We have all been so caught up with western and modern architecture that we forgot to look at things that are in fact next to us all along. Or maybe Rem Koolhaas was right afterall - we really are tabula rasa. Strategies for sustainable architecture is perhaps what frightens me the most. I feel like i am in the climate lecture all over again. Oh no, please. Design module starts off with the first six weeks as a studio project. Everyone comes out with interesting stuff. Somehow, I see everyone doing the same thing, be it within the studio or outside. I hope all of us (the 12 studios) don’t end up doing the same thing. First weeks is pretty ok, looking forward to the next!
