book recommendation : the city of dreaming books
if you are longing to have a good read, then pick ” the city of dreaming books” by Walter Moers. it is an awesome novel. im serious. DEAD serious. its plot is so original, so pure. it does not have a cliched plot. what makes me love this story is the way the story is based on. the idea of people being obsessed with books. like how our world is obsessed with football and technology, the world in Bookholm is heavily obsessed with books. very unique reading experience. why? we read books, yet we are reading about people obsessed with reading. get it? it might sound boring to you about reading what people or should i say, creatures reading, but if i may, with every strain of energy and voice i have, furiously convince you to read that book. reading about creatures obsessed with books is made interesting with some known literary devices, like twists, humour, irony, the different moods and tones of the characters. there is something special about the twists in this novel. the twists somewhat feels lame to you, yet it isnt lame. like it might seemed to be an obvious trap [hence the dramatic irony] for the main character, but Walter Moers doesnt rush into the twists. no! he takes his time, like walking down the beach, and bit by bit, draw us nearer to the incoming twists. this method keeps the reader fearing for the main character. a reader would most probably start wondering why didnt the character managed to forsee the looming danger, then as much as the reader is fustrated with him for being careless, we worry even more each time he gets into trouble. i would like to think that most of the humourous part came at the end, where we would most probably be laughing our heads off. those who have read this book will think of it as a complete different story from JRR Tolkien and JK Rowling. but for those who have just heard about it by mouth, they might think it is another story similar to the 2 authors i have mentioned above. so please, just read the book! cant wait to read other books written by Walter Moers. ***check out my page: a book in her hands to find out what im going to read next!***
