Jon Stewart rules the Oscars

I couldn’t help going “awwwwwwwwwww Jon!!” when he led Marketa Irglova (co-winner for Best Original Song) back on stage after she was denied from making a speech by the overly-anxious orchestra. His jokes, as always, are AWESOME. I laughed so hard at the Hilary Clinton, Vanity Fair, and asteroid ones.

  • “Normally when you see a black man or a woman president, an asteroid is about to hit the Statue of Liberty.”
  • “Of course there is still obviously some collateral damage left over from the strike. Emotionally. Economically. Perhaps worst of all the canceling of the legendary Vanity Fair Oscar party. They said they did it out of, quote, respect for the writers and oh, you know another way they could show respect for the writers? Maybe one day invite some of them to the Vanity Fair Oscar party. They would enjoy it. Don’t worry, they won’t mingle, don’t worry.”
  • “Julie Christie was absolutely amazing in Away From Her. Brilliant movie. It was the moving story of a woman who forgets her own husband. Hillary Clinton calls it the feel good movie of the year.”
Daniel Day-Lewis’ acceptance speech baffled and disturbed me at the same time..I was like whatt??? I know it’s eloquent to a lot of people but it’s way too over the top for my simple brain: “ My deepest thanks to the members of the Academy for whacking me with the handsomest bludgeon in town. This award sprang like a golden sapling out of the mad, beautiful head of director Paul Thomas Anderson .” Mation Cotillard was so cute though, and I love her bit about the angels: “I’m speechless. Thank you life. Thank you love. It is true there are angels in this city.” It was a pretty boring show. I only sat through the entire thing because of Jon Stewart. Oh by the way, Cate Blanchett was sooooooooo gorgeous. FIERCE. Totally irrelevant, but she’s just too darn cute in her little Burberry dress. Aww!!!! And David Archuleta just did an AMAZING rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine”. He is my favourite from Idol Season 7, along with Michael Johns. They blow the rest away. I’m hoping for both of them to reach the finals.
