Obedience before will.
“Let thy child’s first lesson be obedience, and the second may be what thou wilt.” Abiding the rules of Zen and keeping myself in the chains of religion and philosophy have done me no good. Apart from making me accept the fact of how things are done, why peas are placed on my dinner plate instead of baked beans. Acceptance; accepting everything done and thinking that God just planned things the way it happened because of greater good. Or perhaps, this is just another of his infamous paradoxes where the loop never ends. Lately, I have been trying my best to suppress all my thoughts and bringing the hot lava to Sea level. The marketing slogan of Nike didn’t really serve the purpose well. Obedience is not necessarily being the suppressive force of one’s ideas. My title suggests the huge parody this is going to be. So, watch out. Life actually has its invisible constrains. In Singapore’s context, one would definitely “shut up and obey” because it’s imprinted and implanted and even engraved into their bloodline. Much due to education and even though Singaporeans have reacted differently to these educating educational controversies, they still have something in common “Obedience then will”. And so, they’ll never go against the impossible. I find this way of teaching humans, compared to animals somewhat disturbingly common. Animals are too diverse. I’ll use an example, let’s take a dog. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_training From young, the dog is treated with commands. I’m pretty unsure about you, but I was from an Eastern family, having Chinese friends. Everyone around me lives by the whip when we were young. Incorrect behavior? Social Faux Pas? These punishments range from timeouts to whipping or even the infamous no “one episode of Pokémon”. You get the point. Dogs too are being taught like us, “sit” “stay” an even “Recall”. That little puppy disobeys? It gets no treats and perhaps a lash from the cane. Communication, signals, words. We had been taught to decipher them, dogs too share this similarity. They have to recognize the signals the master/owner gives. The only difference is that we have something much much more complex and complicated. When we grow up, we go around and behave like a “bitch” (Ever wondered where the word came from?). We bite like some Rabies infected dog, we bark like some dog which can’t really get enough of his snacks. We whine when someone dumps us or maybe when something bad happens. We fight for the top of the hierarchy like dogs fighting for the king of the pack. We find a mate like dogs, loose and lustful, saliva from jaws down. Placing sights and getting into unnecessary shit brawls just for a mate. But the true agenda is; how far off are we compared to them? Are we really that superior? Or are we treacherous beasts within? This is a world I live in, this disgusts me, bitch. *Side note: I forgot who coined that quote. Someone clear that fog in my mind, please?
