Public transport? Sure…but..

singapore | society

The Ministry of Transport has recently announced its plans to give cash to car/motorbike owners who are scrapping their car, in a move to encourage higher use of public transport. This is great because it reduces pollution and makes us a ‘greeeener’ country. But can the government please, please, please, for the love of all things holy, use their brains before making another contradictory policy that makes absolutely no sense to the average Singaporean? I actually took the MRT at 6.50 p.m (for the first time in many months) last Tuesday because I had to get to Kallang for the Maroon 5 concert. I wanted to injure someone on the train ride there. I boarded the train at Clementi, which is only a mere 3 or 4 stops from the interchange, and the MRT was already very crowded. By the time the MRT moved on to Redhill, I actually got squeezed so badly that my head got banged onto the glass panel . Hello????? This is highly unacceptable! I also got a whiff of bad breath, body odor, post-work perspiration, and just an overall mix of unpleasant ..things because everyone was packed like sardines. If it was so bad for me, I can’t imagine how it is like for people who take the train/bus DAILY. I also find it highly amusing and sad that the Land Transport Authority keep using the excuse that compared to other countries like Hong Kong, we are still having less commuters per square feet..or something like that. Why are you guys comparing Singapore to Hong Kong anyway? Do we care about how we are doing compared to Hong Kong? NO. Singaporeans care about what is happening in their own country! Using Hong Kong’s transport system to glorify your stance is just sad and pointless. So Hong Kong is even more squeezy than us? Fine, that’s their problem..worry about your own first. So before the MoT encourage anybody to scrap their cars, I suggest they look first into how they can create space for those who are going to scrap their cars. Piorities, people. We give you guys millions every year, and you can’t even exhibit some basic commonsense?
