Small things I don’t like #943474

personal | school | singapore | society | trivially useless stuff

I don’t like it when people ask me what I’m studying, and where I’m studying, especially if they are from NTU’s Mass Comm school. Because the conversation ALWAYS, without fail, go into this annoyingly condescending manner: A: Oh you study mass comm? Where? Me: NUS A: Huhhhhhhhh I didn’t know NUS got a mass comm programme! Got meh? *laughs bitchily* (you can almost read their mind, going, “Hah NTU is better. I score.”) Me: Yes, NUS does have a mass comm programme, and we focus on a different area, specifically visual design, gaming, and new media. (My reply is often ignored as the fellow NTU mass commer goes on to indulge in his or her cheap thrill of feeling ’superior’.) or A: Oh you study mass comm? Where? Me: NUS A: Yeeeeeeee why never go NTU’s one?? More recognised mah! Me: Yah, okay, fuck you. Yes, NUS does have a media programme, and people often disregard the fact that we are really different from NTU. Plus, why should I go to NTU when I have already received a thoroughly good media education from Ngee Ann Poly? NTU’s own professor can’t even answer me on how different they are from Ngee Ann! So would it be wiser for me to really go ahead and splurge $30K on something I’ve already learned, just because it’s more ‘recognised’? Being around longer does not necessarily equate to being more ‘recognised’, especially if their graduates are so super annoying. And by the way, Ngee Ann Poly’s diploma in Mass Comm/Film, Sound, and Video is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more ‘recognised’ than NTU’s degree, judging by the amount of successful graduates and also by ‘how long we’ve been around’. So SHUT UP.
